Advanced Organic Chemistry
Applicants require a good 1st degree, minimum 2.1 or equivalent, in chemistry or a related joint discipline. All applicants who are not a British national and/or whose 1st language is not English will need to demonstrate a suitable level of English language proficiency. This is equivalent to an IELTS 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in all 4 components, although we do accept many other types of qualifications or tests. In accordance with the UK Border Agencies Tier 4 visa guidelines, we will also waive the English language requirement for applicants who meet the defined nationality test or who have completed a degree level course in 1 of the listed countries.
Modules include: Synthesis; asymmetric target-oriented synthesis; spectroscopy; organometallic chemistry; stereochemistry; medicinal chemistry; organometallics; oxidation and reduction; natural products.
9 tested general and advanced level lecture courses and 3 or 4 problem-solving classes; dissertation or oral examination.
