The course aims to provide the grounding needed to become an effective, creative and realistic classroom practitioner within the current context of English teaching and in preparation for the changing background beyond that and into the student's later teaching career; emphasis on practical teaching provides students with a broad range of teaching experience in different schools; successful completion leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) subject to satisfactory performance in skills tests and 60 credits at Master's level; the course includes an extensive 24 weeks of placement in 2 schools; at university sessions students discuss experiences with others on the course and learn more about the theory and practice of teaching.
Appropriate 2.2 Honours degree or equivalent; GCSE grade C or equivalent in English language and mathematics; A-levels relevant to the National Curriculum are preferred; applicants should gain recent experience, in school, with children of the age range that they wish to teach.
The Teacing Agency (TA) are offering a bursary to students who have received a certain level of achievement at undergraduate degree level; 1st Class: �9,000; 2.1: �5,000; UK students should also be eligible to receive a maintenance grant; prospective students are advised to contact the TA and Student Finance England to ascertain the financial support available.
