The programme prepares students to enter the teaching profession as newly qualified teachers of high quality physical education, with the appropriate subject specific knowledge and pedagogical understanding in learning, teaching and assessment relevant to the subject; students enter the workplace ready to contribute to developing pupil's competence and confidence to take part in a range of physical activities that become a central part of their lives, both in and out of school; emphasis on practical teaching provides students with a broad range of teaching experience in different schools; successful completion leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) subject to satisfactory performance in skills tests and 60 credits at Master's level; course includes an extensive 24 weeks of placement in 2 schools; at university sessions students discuss experiences with others on the course and learn more about the theory and practice of teaching.
Appropriate 2.2 Honours degree or equivalent; GCSE grade C or equivalent in English language, mathematics; A-levels relevant to the National Curriculum are preferred; applicants should gain recent experience, in school, with children of the age range that they wish to teach.
The Teaching Agency (TA) are offering a bursary to students who have received a certain level of achievement at undergraduate degree level; 1st Class: �9,000; 2.1: �5,000; UK students should also be eligible to receive a maintenance grant; prospective students are advised to contact the TA and Student Finance England to ascertain the financial support available.
