Primary Education (Early Years: 3-9)
This programme prepares students to teach in the age band 3-9 years, with a specialism in the Foundation Stage (nursery and reception) and Key Stage 1 (years 1 and 2); successful completion leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) subject to satisfactory performance in skills tests and 60 credits at Master's level; students follow programmes in teaching core and non-core subjects across the curriculum, relevant to their age range; 19 weeks are spent in school placements; placements are spread across all 3 terms with final teaching placements in the spring and summer terms.
Lower 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent; GCSE grade C or equivalent in English language, mathematics and science subject; applicants must have gained recent experience, in school, with children of the age range that they wish to teach.
The Teaching Agency (TA) are offering a bursary to students who have received a certain level of achievement at undergraduate degree level; 1st Class: �9,000; 2.1: �5,000; UK students should also be eligible to receive a maintenance grant; prospective students are advised to contact the TA and Student Finance England to ascertain the financial support available.
