Environment and International Development

This course is suitable for natural resource specialists and agriculturalists and those from a social science background who work or are interested in and wish to study development issues, sustainability and the environment; it addresses the interaction between environment and development; it analyses policy processes at local, national and international levels, as played out by a large cast of actors, such as: policy makers; politicians; business administrators; rural and urban resource users; a number of critical and constructive skills, analytical techniques and contextual knowledge are developed to advance an understanding of these processes; the main focus of the course is on the political ecology approach to understanding debates and policy processes underpinning responses to environmental and natural resource problems.

Entry requirements

Social sciences degree, 2.1 or equivalent. All applicants who are not a British national and/or whose 1st language is not English will need to demonstrate a suitable level of English language proficiency. This is equivalent to an IELTS 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in all 4 components, although we do accept many other types of qualifications or tests. In accordance with the UK Border Agencies Tier 4 visa guidelines, we will also waive the English language requirement for applicants who meet the defined nationality test or who have completed a degree level course in 1 of the listed countries. UEA offers a limited number of scholarships to qualified international students each year; these awards are based on academic merit.
