Special Educational Needs

This programme focuses on key educational processes underpinning development and action such as: reflection and analysis; enquiry and research; learning and teaching; assessment and evaluation; and collaborative learning; specific subject or topic areas can be identified by participants and explored through the development of key processes.

Entry requirements

Minimum 2.2 Honours degree (or recognised international equivalent) and show that a significant part of each week is spent in the workplace and that the applicant is involved in primary or secondary education and related activities (or equivalent level). IELTs 7.0 overall.

Course modules

Modules include: Clarifying professional concerns; research and professional practice; pedagogy and learning; culture and diversity; practice based enquiry ; practice based enquiry; individually negotiated module; professional practice for inclusion; behaviour management; support for inclusion: dyslexia; managing inclusive settings; managing support for deaf pupils; dissertation.

Assessment methods

Assessment includes a range of task options in the following categories: discursive writing / literature review; case study; peer-reviewed seminars and professional meetings / conferences; tutor/peer reviewed practice; design and evaluation of instructional resources and/or artefacts, including models, posters, information communications technology; video clips etc; professional development portfolios; accreditation of prior experiential learning.
