We were the first UK university to offer a Prof Doc in Information Security. But cybercrime is a rapidly and constantly changing force and we have used both academic research and industry expertise to ensure that we have stayed at the forefront. By studying and responding to emerging trends in tools, techniques and methods used by both investigators and criminals, we have continuously developed and enhanced the course materials and structure to give you the skills and knowledge demanded by the market. This is a part-time-only course for professionals who have been working in information security for at least five years. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of terms of IT law, security management, and hacking techniques. This course is your entry to a career in information security.
Minimum 2.1 Honours in any discipline. Applicants must have current significant work experience in a senior position and a proven commitment to professional, personal and intellectual development. IELTs 7.0 or recognised equivalent.
Modules include: Seizure and examination of computer systems; applied research tools and techniques; work-based planning; work-based practice; research methods for technologists; project portfolio; identifying a suitable topic; research conference; experimenting with methodologies; presentation and defence.
Assessment is based on coursework or presentation; only one has an exam; the research thesis is examined by oral examination by either one internal and one external or two external examiners.
