Occupational and Organisational Psychology
The course aims to develop a depth of knowledge within the specialised professional area, enabling students to deal with complexity and contradictions in the knowledge base students learn to take a critical approach to the discipline, independently evaluate alternative approaches and/or theories, independently put together information and ideas to develop new approaches and responses to problems and issues, and operate within novel, complex and unpredictable contexts and adapt effectively and select appropriate tools for the task; the course is designed to provide the foundation for students wishing to become practising chartered occupational psychologists.
A minimum 2.2 degree in psychology recognised by the British Psychological Society as forming the basis for graduate registration with the society. Preference is given to applicants with some work experience. In the case of applicants whose 1st language is not English, then IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent) is required.
Modules include: Employee relations and motivation or organisational behaviour and organisational development; selection and assessment or training and development; professional practice 1; dissertation preparation; research methods and statistics or dissertation part 1; appraisal and career development or counselling and individual development; design of the work environment or human machine interaction; professional practice 2; dissertation part 2.
Assessment is based on examinations; group reports; individual reflective accounts; dissertation.
