To study at postgraduate level you should have a 1st degree in an appropriate subject or relevant qualifications and experience. School of Divinity PhD applicants typically require a specialist postgraduate degree beyond their 1st degree. If English is not the 1st language, applicants must have 1 of the following qualifications as evidence of their spoken and written English: IELTS: total 7.0 (at least 6.0 in each module); TOEFL-iBT: total 100 (at least 20 in each module); PTE(A): total 67 (at least 56 in each of the "Communicative Skills" sections); CAE and CPE: total 185 (at least 169 in each module).
Students may either research and submit a dissertation of about 30,000 words, which comprises the remaining assessment for the degree, or write 3 supervised research essays to provide appropriate background and preparatory study for the topic of research, and then submit a dissertation of about 15,000 words.
