Celtic and Scottish Studies

Research in Celtic encompass the following main areas: Scottish Gaelic language, literature, culture and sociolinguistics; medieval Irish literature and culture; and minority language policy and planning, especially involving Scottish Gaelic. Research in Scottish Ethnology encompass the following main areas: oral narrative, song and instrumental music, material culture, social organisation, custom and belief, and place names; both oral and written sources are stressed and Scotland offers excellent opportunities for fieldwork in Scots and Gaelic.

Entry requirements

A UK 2.1 degree, or its international equivalent, in a related subject. For a PhD, a Master's degree in a related subject; relevant work experience or qualifications. If English is not the 1st language, one of the following qualifications as evidence of spoken and written English: IELTS: total 7.0 (at least 6.5 in each module); TOEFL-iBT: total 100 (at least 23 in each module); PTE(A): total 67 (at least 61 in each of the "Communicative Skills" sections); CAE and CPE: total 185 (at least 176 in each module).
