Human Cognitive Neuropsychology
This programme, based within psychology, provides intensive training within the specialism of human cognitive neuropsychology and also allows the student to gain expertise in research within the field. The programme is closely integrated with the newly formed Human Cognitive Neuroscience research unit; teaching follows an integrated approach with courses on neuropsychology, cognitive psychology, clinical neuropsychology and brain imaging; the programme also provides training in generic research methods within psychology.
The programme is intended for graduate psychologists with a high degree result (high 2.1, distinction or 1st) or those who have studied or worked in related disciplines who wish to pursue a research-oriented career within cognitive neuropsychology or a clinically oriented career in neuropsychology; applicants whose 1st language is not English require: IELTS 7.0 (with at least 6.0 in each module); TOEFL internet-based test 100 (with at least 20 in each module); PTE(A) 67 (with at least 56 in each of the communicative skills sections); or CPE grade B or CAE grade A.
Compulsory courses: research methods (including psychological research skills; univariate and multivariate statistics and methodology using R; specialist techniques in psychological research; and current topics in psychological research). Option courses: brain imaging in neuropsychology; clinical neuropsychology; concepts and categorisations; consciousness and perceptual awareness; disorders of language functions; eye movements and visual cognition; frontal lobe functions; human cognitive neuroscience; multisensory integration and working memory.
