Biomedical Sciences (Life sciences)

This programme provides grounding for PhD study in the biomedical sciences; students learn valuable research skills, biomedical laboratory techniques and other transferable skills. Students can also choose 2 subjects, 1 each semester, that best suit their interests and career goals; the programme includes seminars, taught modules and short, mini projects in research laboratories. Students also carry out a longer project, which includes preparing a research proposal, as well as carrying out the research itself.

Entry requirements

A UK 2.1 undergraduate degree, or its international equivalent, in the biological, chemical or physical sciences is normally required; applicants may also have been formally interviewed by the School they wish to enter; this can be by video-conferencing or Skype; applicants whose 1st language is not English require: IELTS 7.0 (with at least 6.0 in each module); TOEFL internet-based test 100 (with at least 20 in each module); PTE(A) 67 (with at least 56 in each of the communicative skills sections); or CPE grade B or CAE grade A.

Cardiovascular biology; cell communication; genomics and biological pathways; mechanisms of inflammatory disease; reproductive science 1; infectious diseases; biomedical imaging; genes and disease; genomic technologies; molecular and cellular mechanism of inflammation; reproductive science 2; cancer biology.
