Science Communication and Public Engagement

This programme explores current and emerging practice in science communication and public engagement; it provides conceptual and practical training for both science communication and for dialogic approaches in public engagement, in a variety of contexts. Contexts include science festivals, museums, schools, government agencies, public services and community groups; the programme includes opportunities for students to apply their skills and knowledge creatively in real-life placement opportunities and to develop as reflective practitioners in science communication and public engagement.

Entry requirements

2.1 Honours degree, or its international equivalent, in a science-related subject is required; other qualifications, at Honours degree level combined with relevant experience, will also be considered on a case-by-case basis; applicants whose 1st language is not English require: IELTS 7.0 (with at least 6.0 in each module); TOEFL internet-based test 100 (with at least 20 in each module); PTE(A) 67 (with at least 56 in each of the communicative skills sections); or CPE grade B or CAE grade A.

Course modules

Core modules include: science and society; principles and practice in science communication and public engagement; the role of social media in science communication; science education; dialogue for science communication and public engagement; science policy and practice.

Assessment methods

Dissertation.
