Primary Dental Care

The course provides a particular emphasis on restorative dentistry; the programme is modular; the programme is supported online by a virtual learning environment (VLE) and all the educational material is available online; coursework for assessment is uploaded to the site and there is an active student discussion board available alongside tutor-led discussions.

Entry requirements

A Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree or equivalent primary dental qualification is required along with a minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience in primary dental care; applicants whose 1st language is not English require: IELTS 7.0 (with at least 6.0 in each module); TOEFL internet-based test 100 (with at least 20 in each module); PTE(A) 67 (with at least 56 in each of the communicative skills sections); or CPE grade B or CAE grade A.

Course modules

Introduction to clinical evidence; diagnosis and treatment planning; direct restorations; dental clinic management; occlusal management of the restored natural dentition; endodontics in primary dental care; periodontal management in primary dental care; indirect restorations; restoration of the edentulous space.

Assessment methods

Dissertation.
