Clinical Trials

The programme will provide a knowledge and understanding of the key elements and principles of clinical trial design, delivery and analysis, in addition to a knowledge and understanding of the principles of GCP and their practical implementation in clinical trials. This programme is suitable for graduates in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, life sciences and other allied disciplines involved in clinical trials.

Entry requirements

Applicants require a relevant undergraduate degree with a UK 2.1 or higher result, a medical degree or equivalent if outside the UK; applicants who fall below these entry requirements, but have relevant work experience (3-5 years) may be considered on a case by case basis, and may be admitted to the Certificate level only in the 1st instance; applicants whose 1st language is not English require: IELTS 6.5 (with at least 6.0 in each module); TOEFL internet-based test 92 (with at least 20 in each module); PTE 61 (with at least 56 in each of the communicative skills sections); or CPE grade C or CAE grade B.

Course modules

Compulsory modules: introduction to clinical trials; good clinical practice, ethics and regulatory issues. Optional courses: clinical trial management; introduction to clinical pharmacology; statistical aspects of clinical trials (quantitative); translational pharmacology; health economics; medical devices; bioinformatics and data management; commercial aspects of drug development; clinical trials in special populations; quantitative research and clinical trials; complex interventions (non-drug); pharmacovigilance; pharmacogenetics; monitoring and audit; patient and public involvement; translational imaging and clinical research; MSc dissertation; clinical trials e-portfolio.
