Artificial Intelligence

The department's research draws on neuroscience, cognitive science, linguistics, computer science, mathematics, statistics and psychology to span knowledge representation and reasoning, the study of brain processes and artificial learning systems, computer vision, mobile and assembly robotics, music perception and visualisation.

Entry requirements

The minimum entry requirement is a UK 2.1 degree, or its international equivalent, in informatics, artificial intelligence, cognitive science, computer science, electrical engineering, linguistics, mathematics, philosophy, physics or psychology, plus experience in computer programming; applicants whose 1st language is not English require: IELTS 6.5 (with at least 6.0 in each module); TOEFL internet-based test 92 (with at least 20 in each module); PTE 61 (with at least 56 in each of the communicative skills sections); or CPE grade C or CAE grade B.

Informatics research review; informatics research proposal; introduction to java programming (for students who do not already meet the programming requirements for the taught Master's); dissertation; intelligent robotics; agents, knowledge and data ; learning from data; natural language processing; advanced vision; algorithmic game theory and its applications; computer animation and visualisation; information theory; machine learning and pattern recognition; natural language understanding; robotics: science and systems; human-computer interaction; software architecture, process and management; data mining and exploration; text technologies; computational cognitive neuroscience.

Assessment methods

Dissertation.

Sponsorship information

SAAS for Scottish/EU students; some EPSRC funding available for knowledge engineering specialism.
