This course is designed to prepare students for a research career in academia or industry by introducing advanced ideas and techniques that are applicable in a wide range of research areas, while emphasising the underlying physics concepts. Students take 2 compulsory courses plus a selection of courses that will bring them to an advanced level in subjects such as: general relativity; cosmology; statistical physics; condensed matter physics; quantum field theory; the Standard Model of particle physics.
Applicants require a UK 2.1 Honours degree in physics or mathematics (assuming it has sufficient theoretical physics content), or its international equivalent; applicants whose 1st language is not English require: IELTS 6.5 (with at least 6.0 in each module); TOEFL internet-based test 92 (with at least 20 in each module); PTE 61 (with at least 56 in each of the communicative skills sections); or CPE grade C or CAE grade B.
