Parallel Computing

Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre (EPCC) offers the opportunity to study for a PhD in topics related to high performance computing. We are working on several 'Big Data' research projects, ranging from earthquake prediction and astronomical data analysis to the development of international data infrastructure for managing today's immense growth in data generation.

Entry requirements

The minimum entry requirement is a UK 2.1 degree, or its international equivalent. If English is not the 1st language, one of the following qualifications as evidence of spoken and written English: IELTS academic module, 6.5 (with score no lower than 6.0 in each section); TOEFL internet-based test, total 92 (with no score lower than 20 in each section); PTE, 61 (with no score lower than 56 in each section); CPE grade C; CAE grade B.

Course modules

Research areas include: grid computing, grid middleware and application development; software for future high performance computing systems; modelling and simulation; performance characterisation and benchmarking; and developing a pan-European high performance computing service.
