International Trade Law with English for Academic Purposes

This course provides you with the opportunity to combine English language and study skills with particular area of law, the international trade law. You will have the opportunity to study legal systems, evaluate sources critically. This will enhance your ability to reflect, and produce a synthesis of relevant doctrinal and policy issues in the subject area.

Entry requirements

Our applicants should have a good 1st Honours degree, minimum of lower 2nd Class, or equivalent 3-year higher education qualification, from a recognised institution. If English is not your 1st language, then we require a minimum score of IELTS 5.5, with 5.5 minimum in all components. Decisions on your academic qualifications will be made in close consultation with the Department.

Course modules

Core modules: English for academic purposes; international trade law. Compulsory modules: Advanced English for academic purposes; critical thinking; extended English for academic purposes project; legal research and the English legal system. Optional modules: Advanced legal advice case work; animal welfare and wildlife law; banking law; clinical legal education (law placement); commercial contract law; commercial property 1; commercial property 2; company law; comparative law; competition law; consumer contract law; contemporary issues in criminal justice (law, policy and practice); criminology; current issues in UK human rights law; cybercrime; equity and trusts; European human rights law; family law; international trade law; internet law and regulation; introduction to public international law; jurisprudence 1; land law; law of evidence; law of the European Union; medicine and the law 1; medicine and the law 2; music law; project (law); public law 2; race equality law 1; selected issues in public international law; the protection of human rights in the UK; tort law.

Assessment methods

Within our International Academy, your assessed coursework will generally consist of essays, in-class tests and individual oral presentations, when appropriate. You will be able to choose from a range of topics which will be made available for you. You are encouraged to suggest topics in some modules. On our Graduate Diplomas in a subject with English for Academic Purposes, you may be required to sit exams during the 3rd term of your academic year.
