Art History with English for Academic Purposes
This course aims to help students improve their language skills, together with their art history and theory knowledge, prior to embarking on further postgraduate study; they are offered the opportunity to combine the study of English (with special emphasis on the skills needed for academic study) with 2 important areas of art history (students are able to choose 2 out of 3 of our most popular art history modules, focusing on Italian renaissance art, modern European art, and contemporary art); successful completion normally qualifies students for entry to an appropriate Master's-level course in our school of philosophy and art History.
Lower 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent; IELTS 5.0.
Stage 1 modules: advanced English for academic purposes; critical thinking; extended English for academic purposes project; English for academic purposes; contemporary art: 1980 to the present; the reinvention of man and the world: art and architecture in high renaissance Italy; the turn of the century: art nouveau to abstraction.
Combination of written coursework, end-of-term tests, practical and laboratory work (where appropriate) and end-of-year exams. During the summer, you will work on a dissertation or individual project included in your final grade.
