Politics with English for Academic Purposes
This course enhances students' language and academic skills, and helps to develop their knowledge and understanding of the major theoretical and conceptual foundations of the discipline of political science, and of quantitative methods for studying politics. Successful completion qualifies students for entry to an appropriate Master's level course in the Department of Government.
Our applicants should have a good 1st Honours degree, minimum of lower 2nd Class, or equivalent 3-year higher education qualification, from a recognised institution. If English is not your 1st language, then we require a minimum score of IELTS 5.5, with 5.5 minimum in all components. Decisions on your academic qualifications will be made in close consultation with the Department.
Modules include: Comparative political analysis; critical thinking; English for academic purposes; political analysis; advanced English for academic purposes; extended English for academic purposes project; political parties in Britain and Europe.
Assessment methods include a combination of written coursework, end-of-term tests, practical and laboratory work (where appropriate) end-of-year exams and dissertation.
