Economics with English for Academic Purposes
This course is designed for those who need to improve their language and academic skills, as well as their subject knowledge in economics, before going on to a Master's course; successful completion normally qualifies students for entry to an appropriate Master's level course in our department of economics.
Our applicants should have a good 1st Honours degree, minimum of lower 2nd Class, or equivalent 3-year higher education qualification, from a recognised institution. If English is not your 1st language, then we require a minimum score of IELTS 5.5, with 5.5 minimum in all components. Decisions on your academic qualifications will be made in close consultation with the Department.
Modules include: English for academic purposes; advanced English for academic purposes; extended English for academic purposes project; macroeconomics (intermediate); mathematical methods in economics; microeconomics (intermediate).
Combination of written coursework, end-of-term tests, practical and laboratory work (where appropriate) and end-of-year exams. During the summer, you will work on a dissertation or individual project included in your final grade.
