Electronic Engineering with English for Academic Purposes

This course allows students to gain knowledge and understanding of the technical aspects of electronic engineering systems and, at the same time, offers students the opportunity to enhance their English language and academic skills; successful completion normally qualifies students for entry to an appropriate Masters-level course in our school of computer science and electronic engineering.

Entry requirements

Our applicants should have a good 1st Honours degree, minimum of lower 2nd Class, or equivalent 3-year higher education qualification, from a recognised institution. If English is not your 1st language, then we require a minimum score of IELTS 5.5, with 5.5 minimum in all components. Decisions on your academic qualifications will be made in close consultation with the Department.

Course modules

Modules include: English for academic purposes; advanced English for academic purposes; critical thinking; engineering mathematics; extended English for academic purposes project; mathematical research techniques using Matlab; advanced embedded systems design; C programming and embedded systems; telecommunication networks and systems; telecommunication principles.

Assessment methods

Combination of written coursework, end-of-term tests, practical and laboratory work (where appropriate) and end-of-year exams. During the summer, you will work on a dissertation or individual project included in your final grade.
