Theatre Directing

This course will interest students who already are, or wish to become, a professional theatre director.

Entry requirements

Applicants need to supply a successful written application, plus have a first degree of Upper 2nd Class standard or equivalent (GPA 3.0) or suitable previous life and/or professional expertise. You may be invited for interview.

Stage 1: Attachment (assistant director); collaboration with designers; independent directing project; intraculture performance; MA dissertation by director's production workbook; Ma theatre directing written dissertation; Meyerhold and biomechanics; MFA dissertation by director's production workbook; MFA theatre directing dissertation by practical project; MFA theatre directing written dissertation; Shakespeare; the artistic director; the techniques of adaptation. Stage 2: Attachment (assistant director); collaboration with designers; independent directing project; intraculture performance; MA dissertation by director's production workbook; MA theatre directing written dissertation; Meyerhold and biomechanics; MFA dissertation by director's production workbook; MFA theatre directing dissertation by practical project; MFA theatre directing written dissertation; rehearsal and workshop techniques; Shakespeare; the artistic director; the techniques of adaptation.

Assessment methods

At East 15 Acting School, we employ a variety of assessment methods to ensure you get the most benefit from your time with us. This means you can be continuously assessed through observation of your practical projects, presentations, rehearsal, shows and performance, and contribution to class work. Any live performances are video-recorded and made available to our external examiners. You are also required to produce essays, written assignments, portfolios and reflective diaries or evaluations for assessment purposes.
