Art History and Theory

The graduate diploma consists of 4 modules (2 at undergraduate level and 2 at postgraduate), which are chosen in consultation with each students' course director; students must complete the appropriate coursework and examinations, and can also write a project on a topic of their choosing if it is agreed by their course director.

Entry requirements

Upper 2nd Class Honours degree, or equivalent, in relevant subject; IELTS 6.5 overall and 6.0 in writing.

Course modules

Stage 1 modules: a mirror of nature: art in the Netherlands from Jan Van Eyck to Vermeer; art and ideas; art in the United States: from modernism to postmodernism; contemporary art: 1980 to the present; Latin American art and architecture; picturing Paris: the capital of the nineteenth century; the reinvention of man and the world: art and architecture in high renaissance Italy; the renaissance in Tuscany; the turn of the century: art nouveau to abstraction.

Assessment methods

Combination of written coursework, end-of-term tests, practical and laboratory work (where appropriate) and end-of-year exams. During the summer, you will work on a dissertation or individual project included in your final grade.
