Advanced Web Engineering

This course reflects how web applications continue to revolutionise the way modern enterprises conduct their business, both internally and externally; we educate our students in the design and construction of web and e-commerce applications, and develop their understanding of current trends in this rapidly-evolving area; students also acquire skills in using cutting-edge technologies including: distributed computing; software design; object databases; XML; web services; JSP; ASP.NET; MVC frameworks; and AJAX; graduates can work in a wide range of web-application and commerce-related companies on completetion of this course.

Entry requirements

Our applicants should have a 1st, 2.1 or high 2.2 degree, or equivalent, in computer science, electronic engineering or a related discipline. If English is not your 1st language, then we require IELTS 6.0, or equivalent.

Course modules

Stage 1 modules: Advanced web technologies; e-commerce; programming; group project; mobile and social application programming; professional practice and research methodology; MSc project and dissertation. Options: Advanced web technologies; cloud technologies and systems; computer security; constraint satisfaction for decision making; distributed computing; e-commerce programming; group project; high performance computing; MSc project and dissertation; natural language engineering; professional practice and research methodology; text analytics.

Assessment methods

Combination of written coursework, end-of-term tests, practical and laboratory work (where appropriate) and end-of-year exams. During the summer, you will work on a dissertation or individual project included in your final grade.
