This course seeks to allow students to develop practical skills in: the design; programming; and interfacing of embedded processors; as well as an understanding of: current applications; technological trends and their potential impact on systems of the future; we have an international reputation for research in this field, so maintain well equipped laboratories through our links with industrial partners; this enables us to offer our students instruction in a wide range of topics including (but not restricted to) hardware/software co-design; task oriented programming; systems integration; middleware; networking; human computer interfaces; embedded agents; and the embedded internet.
Our applicants should have a 1st, 2.1 or high 2.2 degree, or equivalent, in computer science, electronic engineering or a related discipline. If English is not your 1st language, then we require IELTS 6.0, or equivalent.
Core modules: Advanced embedded systems design; digital signal processing; group project; professional practice and research methodology; programming embedded systems; project and dissertation. Optional modules include: Creating and growing a new business venture; electronic system design and integration; high level logic design; intelligent systems and robotics; IP networking and applications.
Combination of written coursework, end-of-term tests, practical and laboratory work (where appropriate) and end-of-year exams. During the summer, you will work on a dissertation or individual project included in your final grade.
