This course provides rigorous training in software engineering for large, dynamic and automated financial systems and finance models. It also focuses on software design in a number of real-world financial systems.
Our applicants should have a 1st, 2.1 or high 2.2 degree, or equivalent, in a relevant subject. If English is not your 1st language, then we require IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.
Core modules: Big data for computational finance; cloud technologies and systems; high performance computing; introduction to financial market analysis; professional practice and research methodology; quantitative methods in finance and trading; dissertation. Optional modules include: Computer security; creating and growing a new business venture; digital signal processing; e-commerce programming; financial engineering and risk management; high frequency finance and empirical market microstructure; industry expert lectures in finance; IP networking and applications; learning and computational intelligence in economics and finance; mathematical research techniques using Matlab; mobile and social application programming; programming in Java.
Combination of written coursework, end-of-term tests, practical and laboratory work (where appropriate) and end-of-year exams. During the summer, students work on a dissertation or individual project included in their final grade.
