Financial Decision Making with Applications

This course was introduced to fill the gap between traditional financial analysts and new traders who are taking on board cognitive psychology. Modules in mathematics; accounting; management and finance; and psychology are included, which provide students with the opportunity to learn about: portfolio management; the application of stochastic calculus to the pricing of derivative securities; and the analysis of financial statements and financial reporting. The range of optional modules enable students to follow 1 of many possible structures to meet their needs.

Entry requirements

Our applicants should have a 1st, 2.1 or high 2.2 degree, or equivalent, in a relevant subject. If English is not your 1st language, then we require IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.

Course modules

Core modules: Financial decision making; research methods; dissertation. Optional modules include: Applied statistics; asset pricing; bank strategy and risk; Bayesian computational statistics; behavioural finance; corporate reporting and analysis; derivative securities; financial derivatives; nonlinear programming; ordinary differential equations; partial differential equations; portfolio management; statistical methods; stochastic processes; time series econometrics.

Assessment methods

Combination of written coursework, end-of-term tests, practical and laboratory work (where appropriate) and end-of-year exams.
