Finance and Management
This course is designed to broaden and deepen students' thinking; for both home and international students; who wish to embark on a broad educational programme which prepares them to face the challenges and demands of working in organisations within a wide array of competing economic, social, political and cultural conditions.
Our applicants should have a 1st, 2.1 or high 2.2 degree, or equivalent, in finance, economics or business. We also welcome applications from candidates with any science or engineering degrees. If English is not your 1st language, then we require IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
Core modules: Corporate finance; portfolio management; foundations of management and marketing; management (principles and practices); postgraduate mathematics preparation; research methods in finance (empirical methods in finance); dissertation. Optional modules include: Asset pricing; business strategy; contemporary issues in human resource management; corporate marketing strategy; creativity and organisation; exchange rates and international finance; industry expert lectures in finance; international environment of business; managing across cultures; managing for ethics and sustainability; modern banking; research portfolio; risk management.
Combination of written coursework, end-of-term tests, practical and laboratory work (where appropriate) and end-of-year exams. During the summer, students work on a dissertation or individual project included in their final grade.
