Accounting and Financial Management

This course is of interest to those who previously studied business, economics or another related subject. We offer are students comprehensive grounding in corporate reporting and analysis, and management accounting and control. The compulsory modules give students an introduction to the theoretical and critical approaches to accounting and financial management, in addition to the choice of 3 optional modules. This course is of use to those students hoping to pursue a career in industry, commerce or professional services firms.

Entry requirements

Our applicants should have a 1st, 2.1 or high 2.2 degree, or equivalent, in business, economics or a related discipline. If English is not your 1st language, then we require IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.

Course modules

Stage 1 core modules: corporate reporting and analysis; financial decision making; MSc/MA dissertation; research methods and methodologies in accounting and management. Options: accounting and professionalism; advanced research methods: empirical explorations the contemporary workplace; audit theory; bank strategy and risk; behavioural finance; business strategy; cases in corporate governance; corporate finance; corporate reporting and analysis; creativity and organisation; critical marketing; derivative securities; environment, sustainability and management; exchange rates and international finance; financial decision making; financial modelling; fixed income securities; global investments; human resource management; industry expert lectures in finance; international environment of business; international financial reporting; international management accounting; issues in financial reporting; management accounting; management in organisations; management psychology; managing across cultures; managing for ethics and sustainability; modern banking; perspectives on corporate governance; perspectives on marketing; philosophy of management and accounting; portfolio management; postgraduate mathematics preparation; research evaluation projects; research methods and methodologies in accounting and management; risk management; strategic brand communication; strategy and accounting; trading global financial markets.

Assessment methods

Combination of written coursework, end-of-term tests, practical and laboratory work (where appropriate) and end-of-year exams. During the summer, you will work on a dissertation or individual project included in your final grade.
