Human Resource Management

With a particular focus on the interrelationship between managing and developing human resources, and the qualities and skills required for effective leadership and leadership development, this course will equip you to take a role at the forefront of developing the values and capacities of any human resources department and its parent organisation. As well as introducing you to the key concepts and ideas that underpin contemporary human resource management practice, it will also enable you to contextualise and deploy these through case study based learning that is applicable to a wide range of management scenarios. The course has been designed to meet the needs of newly qualified graduates as well as experienced professionals looking to enhance their career prospects with a graduate qualification.

Entry requirements

Our applicants should have a 1st, 2.1 or high 2.2 degree, or equivalent, in human resources management, management, marketing, a related social science, for example sociology, psychology or communication sciences, or humanities. If English is not your 1st language, then we require IELTS 6.5 or equivalent, with a minimum writing score of 6.0.

Course modules

Core modules include: Human resource management (principles and strategy); human resource management (operations and practice); employment law and relations management in organisations; leading for human resource development; research skills; management report. Optional modules include: Managing for ethics and sustainability; equality and diversity; international human resource management; managing organisational change; managing conflict; managing across cultures; international environments of business. The award of the postgraduate diploma can be made to those students not wanting to take the research skills or the management research report.

Assessment methods

Assessment is through coursework.
