We offer supervision that stretches out across Europe, North America, Latin America, and the Asian sub-continent, with particular strengths in: Criminology and social justice; culture and media; economic sociology; ethnicity, migration and rights; intimacy and gender; science in society; social theory and methodology; survey methodology. Reflecting this, we are home to 2 major research centres: the Centre for Research in Economic Sociology and Innovation (CRESI) and the Centre for Intimate and Sexual Citizenship (CISC).
Master's degree, or equivalent, in relevant subject area; IELTS 7.0.
Core modules include: Dissertation; sociological research design. Optional modules include: Advertising: commerce and creativity; biography and psychosocial research; capitalism and its critics; citizenship, international migration and human rights; contemporary debates in sociology; critical perspectives on terrorism and counter-terrorism; culture and intimacy; ethnography; formative debates in criminology; interviewing and qualitative data analysis; media theory; organised crime: global and local; sociological research design; sociology of human rights 1; texts and documents.
Assessment methods include a combination of written coursework, end-of-term tests, practical and laboratory work (where appropriate) and end-of-year exams.
