Materials Engineering with Management

These programmes bring together the latest developments in materials science and their application into new technology, providing you with specialist knowledge and skills which will enhance your engineering career. They focus on the theory and computational simulation of material structures for application into automotive, aerospace, technology and energy sectors. You will gain a strong understanding of the properties and behaviours of different substances, from raw materials to finished products, identifying their strengths and limitations, enabling you to find solutions to complex contemporary problems. The programmes will prepare you for an exciting and rewarding career, whether you have a desire to lead and manage teams, or wish to progress in a technical materials engineering role.

Entry requirements

Normally a minimum 2.1 degree in a relevant engineering degres eg, materials engineering, mechanical engineering, solid state physics.English language requirements: for applicants whose 1st language is not English: IELTS: 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in any section; or TOEFL IBT: overall score 90 with minimum scores of 21 for writing; 21 for listening; 22 for reading; and 23 for speaking; or Pearson Test of English: 58 with no less than 55 in all communicative skills; Cambridge English: Advanced and Proficiency: overall score 176 with no less than 169 in any section; applicants with lower English language test scores may be able to take pre-sessional English at INTO University of Exeter prior to commencing their programme.

Course modules

Modules: computer aided engineering design; new developments in materials engineering; mechanics of materials; advanced materials engineering; management concepts; research methodology; engineering MSc project; contemporary advanced materials research; advanced CFD.

Assessment methods

Modules are either assessed by coursework only, or a mixture of coursework and an exam. The project entails a short initial report or project proposal of around 1,000 words and a dissertation of 10,000 to 20,000 words.
