International Supply Chain Management

This programme is designed for those who want to work in supply chain engineering, management and logistics. It provides the essentials of management theory and practice, whilst increasing the depth and scope of your technical engineering knowledge.The programme focuses on the supply chain in its entirety, how to construct it, set up operations, manage the input, control operations, and distribute the end product. It opens up the key issues of supply chain management and introduces you to the modern approaches to doing business in this context, teaching you to evaluate, manage and enhance the supply network. You will be taught jointly by the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences and the Business School and will study alongside students from all around the world, who have come to Exeter from a diverse range of business and engineering backgrounds. Successful completion of the programme will equip gradates with a range of skills applicable to many areas, most notably manufacturing and service companies, particularly for roles with responsibility for the supply chain, purchasing, logistics, procurement, materials and engineering management.

Entry requirements

A 2.1 Honours degree in the physical sciences eg mathematics, computer science, engineering or physics.

Course modules

Compulsory modules: research methodology; manufacturing supply chain management; supply chain MSc project; purchasing and supply chain management. Option modules: principles of international business; managing operations; marketing; agile, lean and competitive enterprise; engineering management science; strategic innovation management; strategy; sustainable enterprise economy; global sourcing and logistics management.

Assessment methods

Direct assessment is through a range of formal written examinations, both open and closed book, and marked coursework in the form of problem sheets, laboratory reports, reports/essays based on directed reading and research, as well as oral presentations, and mini-project reports. Dissertation work is assessed through a combination of supervisor's report, internal examination and external examination.
