International Relations

This programme equips students with theoretical and empirical research tools to understand the forces that shape global politics. A postgraduate degree in International Relations is a pathway to a range of careers, from NGOs to International Organisations such as the EU. To understand something as complex as the contemporary world order, theory is invaluable. This foundation will be a benchmark and guide to investigating the complex security and public policy issues of the 21st century. These include; Terrorism; Global resistance movements; The politics of the Middle East; US foreign policy; Global ethics and human rights; International law and governance and International political theory

Entry requirements

Normally a 1st or 2.1 Honours degree (or international equivalent) in an appropriate subject from a recognised university. Course modules

Please note constituent modules may be updated, deleted or replaced in future years as a consequence of programme development. Details at any time may be obtained from the programme website. The programme comprises a dissertation and directed options modules.
Some examples of optional modules are as follows; US Foreign Policy; Global Security; The Politics of Human Rights; International Political Theory; The Politics of Global Capitalism; International Relations of the Middle East; War and Society and Global Justice.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by essays, workshop contributions, presentations, exams and a dissertation.
