Art in Germany

This unique Art History Masters in Art in Germany / Kunst in Deutschland is an MSc/MA programme with a strong international and unique bi-lingual emphasis. You will spend your first semester studying in the University of Glasgow's vibrant cultural environment and the second at the prestigious Institute for Art History at the University of Bonn in Germany. The programme leads to a Double Masters: An MSc awarded by the University of Glasgow and an MA awarded by the University of Bonn. You will study art, architecture, design and exhibition culture within the framework of the rich intellectual and political history in Germany. Art in Germany / Kunst in Deutschland looks primarily at German art, but also considers the international art world in a German context. At both institutions, teaching is delivered by leading scholars in the field and is supported by a vibrant research culture.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for postgraduate taught programmes are a 2.1 Honours degree or equivalent qualification (for example, GPA 3.0 or above) in a relevant subject unless otherwise specified. Note: a minimum 2.1 in History of Art or a related subject is required. Applicants should also submit a writing sample of 2-3000 words, a CV and a personal statement. German language requirement: DSH German Language Proficiency Test for the Admission to Higher Education. International students with academic qualifications below those required should contact our partner institution, Glasgow International College, who offer a range of pre-Master's courses.
For applicants whose 1st language is not English, the University sets a minimum English Language proficiency level. IELTS: overall score 7.0 with 2 subtests not lower than 7.0 and no other sub-test lower than 6.5 or equivalent scores in another recognised qualification (see below). Common equivalent English language qualifications: all stated English tests are acceptable for admission for both home/EU and international students for this programme: ibTOEFL: 92; no sub-test less than 24; CAE (Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English): 185 overall; 2 sub-tests no less than 185; no other sub-test less than 176; CPE (Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English): 185 overall; 2 sub-tests no less than 185; no other sub-test less than 176; PTE Academic (Person Test of English, Academic test): 68; no sub-test less than 60.

Optional: historicism: German art, architecture and design 1850-1918; Dada in Switzerland and Germany.
