Healthcare Chaplaincy

This programme is the culmination of work to develop healthcare chaplaincy as a profession. It is available to healthcare chaplains and graduates considering healthcare chaplaincy as a profession. Applicants who are considering entering healthcare chaplaincy will also have to satisfy the eligibility criteria for registration with the UK Board of Healthcare Chaplaincy.

Entry requirements

Applicants should be working in post as a chaplain or have arranged a chaplaincy placement for the duration of the programme. The placement should be supervised and the student mentored by a chaplain registered with the UK Board of Healthcare Chaplaincy. The NHS Education for Scotland capabilities and competences for healthcare chaplains require that all applicants have a recognised status within a mainstream faith community or belief group (including humanism). Applicants can be ordained or lay. Applicants whose authorising faith community or belief group is not affiliated with Interfaith Scotland or represented by the Healthcare Chaplaincy Faith and Belief Group (HCFBC) should supply written confirmation of their eligibility to register with the UK Board of Healthcare Chaplaincy.
