Theoretical Physics

This course provides an understanding of the principles and methods of modern physics, with particular emphasis on the theoretical aspects of the subject, and at a level appropriate for a professional physicist.

Entry requirements

A 2.1 Honours degree in Physics or a related subject. International students with academic qualifications below those required should contact the partner institution, Glasgow International College, who offer a range of pre-Masters courses.

Course modules

Advanced data analysis; problem-solving workshop; quantum information; quantum theory; research skills; extended project; advanced electromagnetic theory; advanced mathematical methods; advanced physics laboratory; applied optics; dynamics, electrodynamics and relativity; general relativity and gravitation (alternate years, offered 2014-15); plasma theory and diagnostics (alternate years, offered 2015-16); relativistic quantum fields; statistical mechanics.
