Banking and Financial Services
This programme provides students with an understanding of management and regulation of financial markets, various models of pricing financial assets such as stocks, bonds and elective contracts and the underlying assumptions of such models. The programme provides a comprehensive understanding of the economic, financial and legal environment in which providers of financial services operate; the opportunity to attend guest lectures with business leaders and opinion formers, such as the Vice President of Morgan Stanley and the former Management Editor of the Economist.
2.1 Honours degree or non-UK equivalent (eg, a GPA of 3.0 or above) in economics or finance, or a related discipline with at least 4 credit-bearing modules in economics and/or finance.
4 core courses, 2 optional courses and complete a substantial independent piece of work, normally in the form of a dissertation. Core courses: financial services; international corporate finance (accounting and finance); international finance and money; modern theory of banking and finance. Optional courses: advanced portfolio analysis (portfolio analysis and investment is a co-requisite for this course); basic econometrics; financial analysis and equity valuation; financial institutions and markets in developing countries; financial sector stability and growth; international banking and financial markets; international capital markets; international financial accounting for multinational companies (MNCs); international financial management; international trade; monetary policy and the role of central banks; portfolio analysis and investment (co-requisite for advanced portfolio analysis); the law and economics of sovereign debt regulation.
