University of Glasgow
A cross-disciplinary course approach will ensure you learn industry-specific skills in both transport planning and engineering and allows you to focus more heavily on either of the two strands of the programme. Key courses on transport will be followed by lab sessions where practical lessons on the use of highly specialised software will be given in the form of either independent or group projects. This approach will help students to not only acquire theoretical knowledge but also to apply their knowledge to real world problems with actual data. Students will be expected submit essays and lab reports as part of the their course assessment and a dissertation at the end of the programme.
Entry requirements for postgraduate taught programmes are a 2.1 Honours degree or equivalent qualification (for example, GPA 3.0 or above) in relevant fields including urban studies, civil engineering, geography, management and economics. Candidates from other disciplines who otherwise meet the criteria are also considered. Additionally, an interest in acquiring quantitative skills in statistics and economics must be demonstrated.
Core modules include: Transport studies; theory and principles of sustainability; principles of gis (geographical information system); social science statistics 1; project management; transport planning methods; transport planning lab. Optional modules may include: Spatial planning strategies; international urban challenges; transportation systems engineering; autonomous vehicle guidance systems.
