Visual Communication

For creative practitioners working in the modern world of visual communication, it is essential that you are able to draw on a wide number of associated and complementary disciplines, thereby extending your ability to communicate effectively to a wide variety of audiences. In this rapidly developing environment, the most successful practitioners are those people who can embrace interdisciplinary approaches, adopt the widest range of skills, and fully appreciate the ways in which the industry is evolving. To help meet the challenge of multi-disciplinary design communication, the University of Gloucestershire has developed this innovative MA programme which draws on the strengths of its staff working across many creative fields. Graphic design, photography, illustration, digital, moving image and fine art are just some of the complementary disciplines that you will be able to explore during the course.

Entry requirements

Applicants require at least a 2.2 Honours degree or equivalent in a relevant subject. You will be required to submit a portfolio of work. International students need IELTS 6.5 overall (no less than 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in any other band) or equivalent.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by the completion of a series of practical projects, with accompanying research and enquiry. In addition, you will complete three written assignments, relating to your work and the contemporary creative industries. There are no formal exams on this course.
