Screenwriting

This programme is designed to equip students for the demands of working as a professional scriptwriter. The course has a clear commercial focus that enables students to engage directly with a network of leading practitioners in the field. Students will gain an intensive knowledge of working across a broad range of genres and creative industries, from originating and pitching an idea for a targeted market, to the production of an industry-standard portfolio of work.

Entry requirements

A 2.1 Honours degree in film, creative writing or a related subject or equivalent industry experience; applicants need to submit a portfolio of sample written work; international students need IELTS 6.5 overall (no less than 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in any other band) or equivalent.

Course modules

Modules include: Critical and theoretical approaches to screenwriting; adaptation: From script to screen; script development; screen business; writing the short film; writing the feature film; writer�s workshop.

Assessment methods

Assessment is based on writing a portfolio, industry pitch, critical evaluation.
