Business

The programme provides students with the accolade of being a leading expert or practitioner in the field of business and management. Research areas include: human resource management; organisational behaviour; accounting, finance, financial services; critical and social research in accounting and organisations; public administration; public policy; applied economics; strategic management; international business; marketing; supply chain management; knowledge management; IT strategies; entrepreneurship and innovation; tourism, and cultural, art and heritage industries. During their first year students are required to take courses in research methods and other subjects appropriate to their research topic, as determined by the programme leader and research supervisors. The aims of the programme are: to develop the skills required to undertake advanced research in business; to enable students to develop their own specialism within business.

Entry requirements

An Honours degree (generally a minimum 2.1) or equivalent; or a Master's qualification; or substantial research experience gained at a public or private (research) institution or organisation.
Students educated in a language other than English should normally have an IELTS score of 6.5 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each skill) or equivalent in a secure English language test rating in another language testing system. Alternatively, students with an overall IELTS of 5 or 5.5 can study our pre-session English language programme prior to degree studies.

Course modules

Modules include: Research methods; advanced research methods; thesis; various online (moodle) courses for research students and university level courses for research students (including research methods and teaching); individual courses.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by viva voce where students are expected to defend their thesis before the examination committee.
