**MA in Media and Creative Cultures - a new Master's degree at the Department of Creative Professions and Digital Arts at the University of Greenwich** **Why study this at Greenwich?** * This programme is based on exploring themes of identity, power, aesthetics and creation of meaning in contemporary media cultures. * It's designed for those seeking personal and professional development in the world of ever-changing media. * Our objective is to provide a future-facing and career-oriented programme that offers the latest development in media studies, together with hands-on collaborations with creative industries across London and beyond. Our MA in Media and Creative Cultures is a result of several years of research and consultancy in higher education in the fast developing field of media and creativity. Interdisciplinary with roots in cultural studies, philosophy, political science, fashion studies, activism, and digital technology; this degree offers comprehensive theoretical approaches in the study of media in contemporary culture. This programme offers you in-depth training in the latest digital and media research methods and the opportunity to engage with critical materials and cultural developments, as well as to collaborate with international researchers. Throughout the programme, you will not simply be media analysts, but also media creators and curators. You will contribute to timely discussions on media culture, conduct innovative research projects, and visit media institutions across London and beyond. As a Master's student in Media and Creative Cultures at the University of Greenwich, you're encouraged to engage with London's pioneering cultural and media scene, with its many festivals, exhibitions, installations, conferences, lectures, and workshops.
MA: 1) At least a 2.1 (Hons) degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area. 2) Applicants with a good honours degree in other disciplines may be considered if the candidate's profile and motivation indicate a substantial interest in media and creativity related questions and humanistic research. 3) Candidates are expected to have an open mind towards interdisciplinary work and to be capable of theoretical and methodological rigour. 4) Two academic/professional references indicating the applicant's potential for success on the course. 5) An appropriate personal statement (800-1000 words) which outlines in general terms an area of interest that would provide the focus of study and with reference to the following guideline headings: * A research area of interest or a provisional title * Background experience directly or indirectly relevant to the proposed research area of study * Consideration about how your research might be done (even though this may change later and any possible outcome(s) * Evidence of an initial exploration in the area of the project and reference to research that has already been carried out by the applicant and/or others. 6) An interview to discuss the applicant's appropriateness for the course.

This Master's degree uses a combination of teaching, learning and assessment methods. It is based upon an independent, though supervised, research project undertaken by the student combined with structured learning through lectures, seminars and site visits. While a combination of traditional and innovative assessment forms is used, written assignments remain as the core format of assessments. Blogs, audio-visual presentations and site-specific tasks, however, also occupy a significant part of the assessment process.
