Computer Science (Data Science)

This programme is designed for individuals wishing to pursue careers as Computer Science professionals with a specific interest in Data Science. The aim of this programme is to provide computing or closely related subject first degree graduates with deeper knowledge, skills and understanding of the fundamental scientific areas underpinning Data Science to allow them to contribute to the application of Data Science to industry and business. The students on the programme will be exposed to various aspects of Data Science, including statistics, specialist programming, machine learning, data visualisation, as well as application areas such as business intelligence. The graduates from this programme will be able to work as Data Scientists or in other exciting areas of computing that require extensive data processing, such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, which are in a big demand in the industry. All students on this programme are automatically enrolled as student members of the British Computer Society, the chartered body responsible for establishing and maintaining standards in the profession. **The programme has two intakes:** September start and January start.

Entry requirements

MSc: Applicants should have: • A good first degree in computing- related subject • OR in a suitable numerate subject (such as mathematics, physics, engineering, information systems or multimedia) that includes software development experience. For applicants without English as their first language, an IELTS score of 6.0 with at least 5.5 in each component (or equivalent) will also be required.

Course modules

**Full-time:** Full Year: MSc Project - 60 credits Term 1 Compulsory Modules * Enterprise Software Engineering Development - 15 credits * Clouds, Grids and Virtualisation - 15 credits * Data Analytics- 15 credits * Machine Learning - 15 credits * Essential Professional and Academic Skills for Masters Students - 0 credits Term 2 * Compulsory Modules * Programming Enterprise Components - 15 credits * Data Warehousing - 15 credits * Data Visualisation- 15 credits * Applied Machine Learning - 15 credits **Part-time:** Part-time students have minimum 2 years (and maximum 6 years) of study and need to complete the same 8 (15 credit) modules and MSc Project as a full-time students.

Assessment methods

Intellectual skills are assessed by formal examinations as well as the coursework and as the final outcomes of the project.
