Engineering Management

This programme is a substitute for the traditional route of a general management or Master's in Business Administration (MBA) degree that historically helped build a successful senior management career in technology-based business. The programme is primarily aimed at science and technology graduates who wish to extend and develop their skills to encompass a wider set of disciplines, as well as graduates who want to develop their careers towards managerial roles in engineering or manufacturing or in the commercial enterprise in which they have chosen to work.

Entry requirements

MSc: A degree (2.2 or above or equivalent qualification) in an engineering or computing discipline. Students without a first degree but with professional and vocational experience (e.g. incorporated engineer or chartered engineer status) may be considered if they demonstrate the potential to succeed on the programme. Students educated in a language other than English should have an IELTS score of 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each skill) or equivalent.

Course modules

Compulsory modules: Accounting, finance and business planning; technology enterprise; research methodology; strategy and management; individual project; global engineering: theory and practice; advanced principles in supply chain management. Optional modules: Process improvement techniques; advanced principles in lean manufacturing; environmental engineering and sustainability; quality engineering.

Assessment methods

Students are assessed through: examinations; case studies; assignments; practical work, a dissertation.
