Leadership and Management in Public Services

This course provides a contemporary, critical and applied programme of study in the field of leadership and management of public services.

Entry requirements

This course is designed for practitioners, in particular middle and senior managers. Entry requirements for the programme are either: a) an Honours degree with a 2.2 classification or better in any subject from a UK university or the equivalent from a recognised university overseas, together with current work experience in the management of public services gained either in public, commercial or not-for-profit organisations; or b) 5 or more years current work experience in the management of public services gained either in public, commercial or not-for-profit organisations, supplemented by evidence of relevant professional development and training. Where English is not the 1st language an IELTS score of 6.5, or 6.0 plus completion of the University's 4-week English course, or equivalent, is required.

Course modules

Modules include: contemporary context for leading and managing public services; developing people and teams; leading public services; management research and study skills; managing finance and performance; extended studies; managing projects and change; research project; strategy in public services.

Assessment methods

Assessment is based on coursework.
