Distributed Systems and Networks (online)

This course develops technical expertise and practical skills in the design, management and evaluation of networks, and in the use of tools and techniques for system security.

Entry requirements

A recent, good Bachelors degree (e.g. Honours degree from the UK) or equivalent in computer science or closely-related subject. Plus IELTS 6.0 if your 1stlanguage is not English. Applicants who do not wholly meet these requirements, but who are considered to have the professional experience, motivation or potential to succeed at the programme, may also be accepted.

Course modules

Modules include: advanced database; contemporary practices in information technology; distributed systems security; Master's project; e-learning applications development; interaction design; learner centred design; measures and models for software engineering; mobile standards, interfaces and applications; multicast and multimedia networking; programming and program design; secure systems programming; software development tools and methods; software engineering practice and experience; web scripting and application development; web services; wireless, mobile and ad-hoc networking.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by: coursework: there will be a fixed date for assignment submission. Online tests: a fixed a 24-hour time slot is normally assigned for each online test to be taken.
