Distributed Systems and Networks (online)
This course develops technical expertise and practical skills in the design, management and evaluation of networks, and in the use of tools and techniques for system security.
A 2.2 Honours degree in computer science or equivalent (e.g. honours degree from the UK) or equivalent in computer science or closely-related subject. Plus IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 550 (213 CBT) if your first language is not English. Applicants who do not wholly meet these requirements, but who are considered to have the professional experience, motivation or potential to succeed at the programme, may also be accepted.
Modules include: Distributed systems security; wireless, mobile and ad-hoc networking; multicast and multimedia networking; contemporary practices in information technology; specialist project. Optional modules: measures and models for software engineering; learner-centred design; web services; web scripting and application development; multimedia specification, design and production; wireless, mobile and ad-hoc networking; multicast and multimedia networking; software engineering practice and experience; e-learning applications development; advanced database; mobile standards, interfaces and applications; interaction design; secure systems programming.
Assessment is by: coursework - there will be a fixed date for assignment submission. Online tests - a fixed a 24-hour time slot is normally assigned for each online test to be taken.
