Secondary Education (Modern Foreign Languages: French with Spanish)
The course comprises of school placement, subject specialist and professional learning modules. Trainees who achieve a Master's level are awarded the Postgraduate Certificate of Education, those who achieve at level 6 are awarded the Professional Graduate Certificate in Education.
Minimum 2.2 (Hons) degree required awarded by a UK university (or equivalent) with at least 50 per cent in French or Spanish. GCSE English language and mathematics at grade C or above (or equivalent). Recent (last 2 years) work experience in a state secondary school of at least 10 days. Professional Skills Tests in literacy and numeracy and an interview to assess personal suitability for teaching. If the degree is 50 percent Spanish, the student�s ability to teach French to Key Stage 4 will also be assessed. Applicants with non-MFL Honour degrees may be accepted, if French is the applicant's native language. Applicants with a 3rd in their 1st degrees are considered if they hold a postgraduate degree in French. Applicants with overseas qualifications must have them validated by NARIC before applying.
To pass the course, trainees need to achieve all the Teachers� Standards on placement to the level required to be recommended for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and pass 2 written assignments.
